NEW PIER

                           

2oo2 Saw the start at long last of West Bay’s major new £14 million sea defence scheme.
The work includes building a new pier to replace west pier, which will create a new
harbour entrance. On this page you can see photographs of the new pier as it is
slowly built

10th January 2003 Rock armour is put into place.

23rd March 2003 Piles for new slipway start to go in

7th June 2003 Cell seven is started

28th June 2003 New pier closes in on old West pier

11th July 2003 Piles for angling jetty go in.

All the piles for jetty are in.
The steel work on top of the piles is not part of the jetty

Who said West Bay is too small. I reckon this will bring back a few memories for some of you.

18th October 2003 Ship tied up alongside the new pier unloading the rocks for the rock armour

19th October 2003 How the pier looks from the prom, in the distance you can see the piles for the angling jetty.as you can see without a jetty fishing will be difficult if not impossible.

14th May 2004 The last section of the new pier goes in And the rocks are piled up to protect the repiled East pier

28th May 2004, The old West pier starts to be demolished

This Cannon was found in the old West pier as they demolished it.

8th March 2005 HRH Prince Andrew makes his speech on the official opening of the coastal defence work. He even mentioned the Angling Jetty and hope the funding would be found for it.
