SATURDAY:
Saturday dawned cloudy with a southwesterly wind blowing, which throughout
the day got stronger making the sea choppy, but the competitors persevered with
the fishing, with most of the competitors catching some fish. The competitors
were only allowed to bring one of ach species back to the scales and the daily
winners and overall winners would be decided by the best two fish of different
species % of specimen weight. The species caught were; pout, cuckoo wrasse,
ballan wrasse, dogfish, poor cod, dab, red gurnard, dragonet, tub gurnard,
pollack, conger eel & thornback ray. The runaway leader was Steve Harwood who
caught a red gurnard 610 g 108% and pout 1 kg 440 g 106% giving Steve a total

SUNDAY:
Sunday dawned with sunshine and a lighter westerly wind blowing making it
the best of the two days for fishing. The overnight leader was Steve Harwood
with a total percentage of 214%, even though this was a good percentage and
would prove a challenge to beat everyone was in high spirits with the thought of
being the one to catch better specimens to beat Steve. Once again the boats set
off to their chosen marks at 10.00am, Steve being cautious left the harbour last
trying to avoid anyone following him to were he caught his two good fish. he
boats were all back in the harbour by 5.00pm, the competitors had had a good
days sport with most of them catching fish to bring to the scales, news filtered
through of a good ray being caught which if true had a chance of knocking Steve
off the top position as long as the captor had a good second fish to go with it.
The captor, Dave Morris brought the ray to the scales, it was a sting ray of 15
kg 910 g 117%. Once the weigh in was over we all waited for the result with
baited breath to see if Steve had won the event overall or had been beaten by
Dave. Dave had won the second day but lucky for Steve his total was not good
enough to stop Steve winning the event overall.
