Sunday 20th April 2008 saw West Bay Sea Angling Club's annual Chesil Champs competition which once again was sponsored by The Angling Centre West Bay. One hundred & thirty nine anglers signed on at Freshwater Beach Holiday Park to fish the competition. The day started hazy with the sun breaking through early on, there was a shower in the afternoon but this didn't last long.

The boundaries for the competition were from the Jurassic pier at West Bay to the Flagpole at West Bexington, Though Freshwater beach is normally private it was opened up for this competition, with quite a few of the competitors deciding to fish the beach. 

Out of the one hundred & thirty nine competitors, sixty five managed to catch some weighable fish, with many of the fish coming from Freshwater, Cogden & West Bexington beach. The fish were mainly Dogfish, Flounder, Plaice, Dab, Rockling & Wrasse,  The total weight on the day was 91 kg 160 g (200 lb 15 oz ) .

The top lady was S Bellfield with three dogfish for 1 kg 60 grams (2 lb 5 oz). Top junior was C Morley with a dogfish for 1 kg 20 g (2 lb 4 oz),  Due to the generosity of our sponsor, companies and individuals who donated prizes, the prize table went down as far as 35th place. This year also saw the first year of the optional super pool, Simon Bowditch the West Bay SAC shore match secretary who came second overall won the super pool payout of £430.

1st: Adam Cullingford (West Bay SAC) 4 kg 200 g. 3 dogfish & 4 Plaice.
2nd: Simon Bowditch (West Bay SAC) 3 kg 540 g. 6 dogfish.
3rd: PJ Wheeler 3 kg 380 g. 5 dogfish.
Top Lady: S Bellfield 1 kg 860 g. 3 dogfish
Top Junior: C Morley 1 kg 20 g. 1 dogfish.
Heaviest Flat Fish: Barry Codling 1 kg 40 g plaice
Heaviest Round Fish: T O'Grady 1 kg 160 g dogfish.
